Coffee talk: STI testing? How did I get here?

As I sit here enjoying my coffee this morning my mind keeps wandering to some of the unusual twists my life has taken in the last few years. Today I’m reflecting on my recent trip to my doctor to get an STI test.

The last time I was tested for an STD was in 1988. It was mandatory back then to get the marriage license I needed before my first marriage.

This time was a little different. Why did I need to be tested? I needed to be tested for a potential future partner. Not my future partner, my girlfriends future partner. No, wait, not for her future partner either but for her husbands potential future partner. Tracking so far?

Short version – I’m testing for my girlfriends, husbands, potential future partner. I’m sure this isn’t entirely uncommon but it is in my world. At least it had been until now.

So how do I feel about this? I’m actually kind of excited. I’m excited for Jon pursuing something that he has been thinking about for quite some time (he wrote a little about it here). I am also excited to be forming a relationship, of sorts, with another local couple. This is what I was hoping for when we started to get back in to the local social scene.

Obviously I don’t know what will happen, we are all still in the very early stages of getting to know each other. I do know that it is fulfilling a desire that I have had for a long time.

And, just in case any of you are wondering, yes I passed my test.
